Blog Resolution

For the first post of 2010 I’ll hit you up with a resolution, or rather, a goal. This is the year that I re-design this blog. Not an evolution, but a wholesale rethinking of the site. I want to re-design my personal branding materials as well, which will be reflected in the site. From a web design point of view, I want to add some features — perhaps using the home page as a sort of newspaper style “front page” with links to blog, Twitter feed, portfolio, articles, etc. Something I’ve been meaning to do for a while is to kick up the commenting system, perhaps by adding Disqus so more folks can cross-link their comments to Facebook, Twitter, etc.

That’s for the site. As for me personal, from a design perspective, this is the year that I turn the corner and start producing great work. Sounds vague, I know, but I have to change the game. To make a long story short, I’ve all but resigned the fact that my day job — especially as a freelancer — will never allow me to produce the sort of work I want to show the world, so I’m taking on side projects in record numbers. I’ve currently got 8 side projects of various sizes on my list, so I need to start crossing them off!

I’ve got at least 3 books rattling around in my mind, so I need to get cracking on those. I’d like to turn this blog into a book, somehow weaving a central thesis through all this crud. There are recurring themes, as you can see, but I don’t know if I’ve written a cohesive 50,000 words on any particular topic. But now into my fifth year of design blogging, I’m sure I’ve observed quite a bit. There is, if you like, a great deal of raw material.

Onwards and upwards, dear friends. Happy January.
