Re-Designing Google’s Logo

If I’ve never said it before, I hate Google’s logo. I think it’s crap. I’m not amused by the pre-school colour scheme and the cheesy 3D effects make me gag. I’m used to it by now, but it sucks.
So what’s a better alternative? Some guys on a the Graphilia forum have taken a stab at it. Some innovative ideas, some very practical alternatives. You know, I honestly don’t mind the one that simply types out Google in Helvetica Light.
I should throw in my own effort … when I think of something.
