great post, prescott! do you recall if the spots from past olympics had the same overload of “sappiness?” maybe london 2012 we’ll see some zig while the rests zags? i was also a fan of the visa spots. morgan freeman was right on for the v/o.

@ Qawi: did you also happen to notice how often the NBC commentators brought up the same story about the chinese women gymnasts “these girls were taken from their homes at 2 years, never being able to see their families…”

Just a quick observation about the commentators…Aren’t they just supposed to comment, not keep “yammering” throughout the entire event!?!

Yet one more reason I enjoy attending a sporting event rather than watching it on television. I always thought it was the ambience of being there, but now I suppose it was so I don’t have to see/hear a talking head while trying to watch the f’ing game.

I have to agree with you on this commentary. I can’t stand the newscasters (notice how they start raising their voices just because it’s the last leg), but more importantly I can’t stand the “My Life As an Olympic Athlete…” I want to watch the race, I don’t care to see the Athlete of Interest (AOI) at the local farmer’s market. Just race. I chuckle every time the AOI is from Eastern Europe; every story is, “If she didn’t do gymnastics, she would be dead…”

I was thinking of going online for streaming video, but as soon as the Microsoft Silverlight plugin came up I changed my mind. Somehow I feel it’s spyware that will only get by because anything Microsoft is trusted on most computers.
