Obama Introduces Campaign Seal

Obama campaign seal

In the first graphical step towards asserting his Presidentiality, Barack Obama’s campaign has debuted a government-style seal to compliment the existing logos and branded materials.

The New York Times breaks down the seal, including it’s Latin motto, Vero Possumus, or as we say in English, Yes We Can.

It is emblazoned with a fierce-looking eagle clutching an olive branch in one claw and arrows in the other and is deliberately reminiscent of the official seal of the president of the United States.

So how will the seal resonate with voters? Will the not-so-subtle symbol convince voters that he’s already Presidential material, the way John McCain is asserting that he’s been in the Navy for all those years. I’m always a fan of crests and seal-style logos, but their use implies a certain level of sophistication (read, arrogance) that may alienate some folks (read, proletariats).

I’m proud to say I live my life by the Latin motto Frateres Antepono Meretrix Meretricis; roughly translated: Bros before hoes.

UPDATE: Political Base has picked up the story and added the hypocritical reactions from the Right Wing. Apparently, they’re upset that Obama’s campaign is using a crest similar to the Presidential Seal. Unfortunately for them, they’ve got loads of Presidential-esque seals for their various groups and squads and little cliques. Check out the article here ยป

  1. Interesting idea, but didn’t Mitt Romney do this earlier in the game, to great criticism?
