Al Gore's New Logo

we

We can solve it. That’s the call to action from Al Gore’s new venture, The Alliance for Climate Protection. The message is simple, we can’t solve global issues alone, but together we can. The logo, also simple. And in that, it’s great.

I haven’t commented a logo as a pure piece of design in quite some time, but I have to chime in to say how much I enjoyed the cleverness and hidden meaning of the “we” logo. It accomplishes everything the messaging does, taking the selfishness of our consumer-driven society and, literally, turning it on its head. Brilliant. This sort of graphic wit is more common in Europe, but it’s good to see American agencies taking a leaf from our transatlantic buddies. (the Shelter logo from Johnson Banks comes to mind).

Kudos to The Martin Agency for working with Gore on this project. And if you want to read a further dissection, check out the commentary of Steven Heller that ran in The New York Times.
