Here's a collection of ebay-logo clones. Wouldn't be a bad idea to renew the visal identity.

I agree, a ten-minute buffer would make a world of difference. The trouble at a very fundamental level is that eBay has become more than a mere auction site — it's turned into a kind of retailer. Perhaps if a human-powered retailer were to emerge somewhere between Amazon (full price, new) and Craig's List (supercheap, second-hand) eBay would be forced back into its original niche.

Regarding the interface, all I want is my AJAX countdown. That can't be too difficult to add!

It's not just the buy it now- Ebay has a fundamental flaw with the fixed time ending. No live auction would allow sniping. They need to have a 10 minute of no-bids, after final bid to make sure the auction really should end. OnSale used to have this technology and it worked great (that was in the day of modems and dodgy connections).
They also need to separate the pros from the rest of us. Try buying a diamond ring on e-bay from a jilted guy- it's impossible to sort the real people from the diamond dealers.
And, the interface still sucks- which is totally unbelievable after all these years.

A better experience can be found in the Ebay desktop, but I totally hear you on the pricing and overall site.
