Valentine’s Day Special: NYC Condoms Return

I love New York, but in that way.

NYC Condom
The new NYC condoms

Following last year’s successful effort to distribute NYC condoms around the City, the dept. of Health is repeating the measure. In fact, they’re going bigger and bolder this time around with a series of print and online ads. There’s even TV spots on the DoH website. including my fav, the “jazz” version

Of course the reason I care is because they re-designed the packaging! Along with the edgy, urban, layered style of art direction from the ads, the condom wrappers themselves have been cleaned up and simplified, but still make use of the class subway dots.

I have to say, this campaign is sharp. In spite of the Wolff-Olins-designed NYC logo, and all it’s controversy, this is shaping up to be a quintessentially New York brand — and one that isn’t design for the tourists. Although if you ask me, those would make the ultimate souvenirs; imagine the stir they’d cause back in Iowa!
