Nazi Branding

VW is actually a Nazi brand

The Third Reich may have died the hard death back in 1945, but some popular brands of Germany during that era are still alive and well. Cracked.com (of all places) has an interesting, albeit profane, article about 5 popular brands brought to us by the National Socialist German Workers’ Party.

Head over and read the article here. Or I can just spoil them for you after the jump.

5. Hugo Boss (made uniforms for the SS)
4. Volkswagen (Hitler invented the Beetle)
3. IBM (made punch card machines to aid in Jew-tracking)
2. Bayer (made Zyklon-B and other nasty shit)
1. Siemens (made pretty much everything else)

And might I add that Fanta was the brand created by Coca-Cola to be sold in Nazi Germany. That’s still around.

Maybe one day I should get around to writing a post about how the Nazi party is still the strongest brand in history. Controversial enough?

But these days I love the Germans — a very smart and industrious people. History aside, we should all strive to be more like them.

There were alot of firsts as well, Autobahn (First Interstate System, later adopted by Eisenhower for the US), this first Cruise Missle (V1), the first Jet Aircraft (me262), the first rockets, first submarines, first radar systems, inventors of the nuclear weapons (perfected by the US), and many others.

I agree with you on everything except the Nuclear Weapons. As much as they tried, German scientists did not invent atomic weapons. Period.

The first atomic weapon was created detonated on American soil. The team consisted of American scientists and engineers, as well as some from all over the world. We owe a fair amount of credit to Enrico Fermi, of Italy, for his work at the U. of Chicago.

For better or for worse, history credits the United States with introducing mankind to nuclear weapons.

Also, I’ll have to check on RADAR. I believe it was cooked up at MIT during the war, at least in its practical applications.
