5 Things You Didn’t Know About Starbucks

I used to hate Starbucks. Did you know that? I used to think they were a bunch of arrogant gits who charged $4 for a cup of burnt water. But these days it’s a different story. Starbucks is on my shortlist for favourite stores, as they have proven time and time again that they have their shit together when it comes to coffee. And music. And comfortable chairs. And design.
From AskMen.com comes a great post featuring 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Starbucks. I suggest everyone read the post, and I’m not giving away anything when I give you the abridged version:
- 1. On average, two new Starbucks have opened every day since 1987
- 2. Its name comes from Moby Dick
- 3. Its founders sold Starbucks in 1987 to build Peet’s Coffee & Tea
- 4. Part-time employees are entitled to full benefits
- 5. Starbucks doesn’t franchise its stores
For the record, I knew #2 and #4. I found #5 to be the biggest shock of all, especially in light of #1. Bloody Hell.
