Urban Camouflage

While I did smirk at this little photo slideshow from the New York Times, I can’t help but roll my eyes at the sad reality that vending machines are a permanent and ubiquitous mark of any metropolis or even small town.
If you think about it, vending machines are damn ugly! They are nothing but clunky boxes, often whirring and humming with refrigeration parts. The side panels are impromptu billboards, adding to the over-saturation of advertising and stimuli, ‘brandalism’, of the urban landscape.
But in this case, I simply have to wonder why someone would need to disguise himself as a soda machine? I mean, do people get chased that often? Are vending machines that popular? Judge for yourself.
