Madrid 2016: Logo Finalists

Madrid 2016

No, this hasn’t become the Olympic Logo Blog (is there one?) but I just learned from SpeakUp that the city of Madrid, potential candidate city for the 2016 bid, is hosting a little contest to pick their bid logo.

My Spanish is good enough to read a website, and apparently 2700 entries were submitted, with only the top 10 appearing on the site for public vote. Voters will have another 13 days from the time of this post to cast their vote. Just add your email, and I think it should be fine. (didn’t read all the fine print, it is in Spanish, after all). Go Vote.

My commentary is minimal in this case. The logo I chose appears above, but there are some other viable contenders.

I suspect that this entire voting idea is a retaliation to the public tsunami that followed the unveiling of the London 2012 logo a few months back. Perhaps the Spanish authorities are following the logic that if the people have a hand in choosing the logo, they will be more involved and proud of the bid in general. Public support is always nice to have when the build projects go over budget by a few Billion (with a B).
