Logo Created by a 6-year-old

Check Point Software Technologies

This turned up on digg this morning and I had to make a note of it. Apparently, this logo is the actual logo currently in use by Check Point Software Technologies. According to the poster, it was created by the CEO’s 6-year-old daughter.

The funny thing is that they use this logo integrated into their highly-templated website! Total clash of styles.

But on a serious note, this is a truly sad abuse of the design profession. People, please don’t let 6-year-olds design things. Use a professional, ask for his opinions, his expertise. Trust his training, investigate his portfolio, do research. Pay money for services. Build a relationship. Leave your 6-year-old in first grade.

But I gotta say, for a 6-year-old, it’s pretty well constructed.

Its appalling. Plus you would think that a six-year-old would come up with something much more original! It looks like something an ICT teacher would draw on a white board in front of a preschool class…

Great post, Prescott! Not only did you give me a good laugh, but your point carries across all aspects of marketing and business — leave the kids at home. I even talk about that in the copywriting book I’m working to publish using the example of local car dealerships as notoriously being guilty of turning ads into home movies.

Seems like they have changed or throw away the logo. I can’t see it on the checkpoint website. Maybe you have a screenshot, cause I just can’t imagine ;D

Hilarious. The logo is there in the top-right corner, although it is quite small.

It does look out of place. He might have put the logo on the contact page or somewhere a little less conspicuous. Or even just left it as the favicon. But it melts your heart, doesn’t it? What a wonderful thing that man has done for his daughter!

Been there but it was by a 40 year old who created some psychedelic rainbow logo from powerpoint.

We used the idea but made it more professional and he ended up firing us :P

Thanks everyone for leaving comments, I appreciate it.

Mandy, the large version of the logo is buried deep inside the site, somewhere in their “press kit”. I’m not sure how I found that section, however.

Jermayn, I can’t believe that you all got fired, that’s absurd. One day, when I run my own studio, I will explicitly ban anything made in Powerpoint. That goes for clients too. Anything ‘designed’ using Microsoft Office should be treated as radioactive.

If the story is for real, its absolutely lovely and adorable..

I really like the thought that a money orientated company has somewhere something like a heart buried…

The CEO, I repeat the CEO’s 6 yr old daughter. I can honestly say if it was anyone elses 6 yr old, fat chance it would be used.

No one will take their site seriously when they see that logo up there.
